In a world where people change
And you hardly recognize who used to be
I will remember you;
Every time you look at me
Confused, your gaze hardened and lips tightened
I will drown myself in the blue of your eyes;
I will remember soft grey clouds
Moving in blue skies that we used to
Watch as kids, till we were kids no more;
I will remember your laugh
And the crinkle that formed around the corner of your eyes
When we made jokes about what shapes the clouds took;
I will take your hand in mine
And pray for a grip
Just like when you used to hold on to me;
We’d close our eyes and feel the grass
Beneath our bare feet
You called it “feeling mother earth’s pulse”;
I will remember you everyday
And silently curse those
Who took this memory of me from you.
Hey guys, thanks for reading this poem. I took those pictures and I just immediately wanted to write about two kids who used to watch the clouds together until life, adulthood and selective amnesia tore them apart. I hope you enjoyed reading it!
